Staying Safe During Formal Season

Leven Greene

Everyone already knows the drill: stick with your friends and don’t leave your drink unattended. With Greek formals coming up this semester, I wanted to give a few extra tips on how to stay safe while still having a good time.

  1. Make sure your phone is fully charged. Duh.
  2. Only carry the essentials. No one wants to lug around a purse when going out to a party, and they’re easier to swipe on Beale St. anyways. When I go out with friends, I carry my ID in the back of my phone case, attach my dorm/house key to my bra strap or belt loop, and I try to keep a 20 dollar bill on me just in case.
  3. NEVER UBER ALONE. Call a friend if you have to. I heard that AOPi is partnering with Lyft to provide their guests with rides. Use it, but travel with your friend or date.

I know this is cliché, but just be smart. Enjoy yourselves this weekend, but be aware of your surroundings and share your location with a friend who isn’t going out. In the words of my highschool math teacher: “Make good life decisions!” Have fun y’all!
